How Carbon Steering Wheels Are Manufactured
Published by YUNZ AUTO · Manufacturing Insights
1. Carbon Fiber Layup
The process begins with layering carbon fiber cloth over a mold or steering wheel core. The number of layers and orientation are determined by the structural requirements of the specific vehicle model. Resin is applied between layers to bond the composite.
2. Curing
The layup is cured under controlled heat and pressure, typically in an autoclave or vacuum bag. Proper curing ensures structural integrity, eliminates air pockets, and achieves the desired surface finish.
3. CNC Trimming and Finishing
After curing, excess material is trimmed using CNC machining for precise dimensions. The surface is sanded and coated with a clear coat (glossy or matte) to protect the carbon weave and provide the final visual finish.
4. Hand Stitching and Assembly
Leather or Alcantara grip zones are hand-stitched by skilled technicians. Electronic components — heating elements, airbag modules, buttons, and wiring — are integrated during assembly. All connections are tested for OEM compatibility.
5. Quality Inspection
Each finished steering wheel undergoes quality inspection covering surface finish, stitch quality, electronic function, and fitment. YUNZ AUTO operates under ISO9001 factory management standards. Selected products can be prepared according to target market compliance requirements.
